Join us for this live program in the Middletown Township Public Library’s community room- About: Two centuries ago, a teenage genius created a monster that still walks among us. Few creatures of horror have seized readers' imaginations and held them for so long as the anguished "wretch" of Mary Shelley's Modern Prometheus. The story of Victor Frankenstein's terrible creation and the havoc it caused has enthralled readers, listeners, and viewers for generations. Considering the novel's enduring success, it's remarkable it began as a mere whim of Lord Byron, who, along with Mary and her then lover, Percy Shelley, was summering on the shores of Lake Geneva, "We will each write a ghost story," Byron announced to his friends, when continued rains kept them indoors. At this challenge, Mary Shelley began work on a 'ghost story' that was to evolve into the most celebrated horror novel in literary history. Register online @ mtpl.org
