Spain’s Role in America’s Struggle for Independence (USA250 History Lecture Demonstrations)


As Spain’s crucial role in the American Revolution is not commonly known or acknowledged, Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre will celebrate Spain’s contributions and the legacy of Hispanics to U.S. Independence with a cross disciplinary program featuring a history lecture/PowerPoint presentation by Paul Soltis, a New Jersey State Parks Historian, and live demonstrations of Spain’s 18th Century dance and music traditions by Alborada's dancers and musicians as well as reenactment specialist, Maria Hill. • The event brings to light how Spain and the Caribbean colonies shaped the battle for American Independence, including one of the most important players, General Bernardo de Gálvez. • The focus on New Jersey highlights Juan de Miralles, a Spanish merchant based in Cuba who supplied funds, munitions, uniforms and supplies, meeting with Washington at his headquarters at the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage in Somerset NJ owned by Jacob Hardenbergh, the first President of Queen's College, now called Rutgers University Tickets: FREE Admission To Register Visit: https://AlboHistoryEventSept2026.eventbrite.com Or https://AlboHistoryEventOct2026.eventbrite.com More information: visit www.alboradadance.org and www.facebook.com/alborada.dance About the Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre Through dance, drama and music, Alborada’s passionate artistry reveals the many diverse and historical threads that comprise the multicultural fabric of Spanish culture.
