The winter season evokes contrasting images and emotions. There is the tradition and nostalgia of the holidays, the freshness and beauty of new fallen snow, the weariness of gray days, and a fair share of magic and mystery.
On Saturday evening December 14 at 7:30 pm, you are invited to join Anthony LaGruth and the talented musicians of the non-profit Livingston Symphony Orchestra for “Winter Reveries,” a musical depiction of the season ahead. Enjoy the celebration of the holidays with Christmas and Hannukah medleys and dances from Tchaikovsky’s iconic “Nutcracker Suite.” Also delightful are the musical descriptions in lesser-known works, including Korngold’s whimsical “The Snowman” and Rimsky-Korsakov’s enchanting folk tale “The Snow Maiden.” Finally, you can close your eyes and listen to Glazunov’s Ballet “Winter” and hear how various instrument combinations and colors capture the feathering of frost, the shining of ice, the pelting of hail, and the floating of snow from the heavens.
The December 14 Livingston Symphony Concert “Winter Reveries” takes place at Heritage Middle School, 20 Foxcroft Drive, Livingston. The venue is wheelchair accessible with adjacent free parking. Tickets are available online on the orchestra’s website, www.lsonj.org or at the door, with children under 12 accompanied by parents admitted for free and 40% discounts given to seniors and students. For more information, please call (973)980-1809.
