We invite you to join the nonprofit Livingston Symphony Orchestra, a longstanding well regarded regional community orchestra, for "Symphonic Sounds." This live concert program takes a look at just what a symphony is.
As a major musical work, a symphony is usually performed in the second half of a concert and is generally divided into four distinct parts or movements. Its melodies are shared and expanded through the different sounds of the string, woodwind, brass and percussion families of instruments. Symphonies have evolved from the time of Mozart and Bach to our present day, and all of them are unique, emotional musical collages.
This concert program begins with “Papa” Joseph Haydn’s classical Symphony No. 104, his last in a long line of humorous musical creations. This is contrasted by the romantic musical journey a century later by 19-year-old child prodigy Richard Strauss in his Symphony in F minor, the second symphony he wrote before changing his focus to composing romantic tone poems and operatic forms of music.
A natural teacher and communicator, Maestro and Music Director Anthony LaGruth promises to make this an enlightening evening of enjoyable music. Tickets are available online or at the door, with a 40% discount for seniors and students, and children under 12 free when accompanied by a family member.
