Volunteers Needed for Whippany River Clean Up
Join the Bethel Church of Morristown, Morris County Historical Society, and the Whippany River Watershed Action Committee on Saturday, March 16, for the 13th clean-up of the Whippany River. Volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot across from Bethel Church, 59 Spring St. Supplies will be provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves. Raindate March 23. This year, in addition to work along the river, volunteers will have the opportunity to clean debris accumulated at the site of the first Bethel AME Church in Morristown in 1843, which also served as the first school for African American students in the local area. The Whippany River tends to be a magnet for garbage and debris. This is a particular concern during the spring when melting snow, flooding, and major storms deposit trash and other debris in and along the river.
