HudsonWay Immersion School's Inspired Parenting Workshops “An International Correspondent Reflects on Her Family's Educational Journey” with Elizabeth Weise, author of A Parent's Guide to Mandarin Immersion

Journalist and mother of two graduates of K-8 immersion programs Elizabeth Weise reflects on her personal experience with, and research into, immersion education in the United States. We will discuss why Elizabeth, as a non-native speaker with no personal connections to China chose to put her daughters, both of whom who are now in High School and one of whom is applying for college, into a Kindergarten through Grade 8 immersion program, and what she's learned from speaking with immersion school administrators in both public and private schools across the country. Elizabeth offers a unique perspective on the nature and benefits of immersion education, both personal and national, and we are privileged to have her host our first Inspired Parenting Workshop of the new year at The Party Room @ 525W52, adjacent to HudsonWay Immersion School's forthcoming Midtown campus.

Elizabeth Weise (it rhymes with ‘geese’) is the mother of two daughters who have been in Chinese immersion since they began school in San Francisco. Both daughters are now in high school and each has taken college-level Chinese classes. Newly admitted to Wellesley, her oldest is contemplating a gap year working in China before she begins college. Weise’s book, A Parent’s Guide to Mandarin Immersion, is the how-to guide she wished she’d had when her kids began in immersion. She also edits the Mandarin Immersion Parents Council blog. Her day job is as a national correspondent for USA TODAY covering climate change.
