Homebodies

From Alex & Olmsted, winners of the 2017 Jim Henson Foundation Grant, comes Homebodies, a puppet show that examines the idea of home and space. Made with props and sets that were painstakingly designed and crafted by hand, Homebodies is presented by two of the most lauded puppeteers from the Baltimore-DC area. Theater Project is proud to present Homebodies, premiering exclusively at our historic Midtown-Belvedere stage, 45 West Preston Street, Baltimore, April 27th through the 29th.

Having lived much of their lives in a cramped studio apartment, Alex Vernon and Sarah Olmsted Thomas know what it means to make the most of a small a space. Taking this idea, and blending it with the visual elements of organ maker H.O. Studley’s iconic Tool Chest, the two combined their artistic prowess to construct a 30 cubic inch, multi-function puzzle box that serves as the dwelling for a pair of puppets. The box can be transformed into any number of shapes and designs, to fulfill whatever purpose the puppet masters have in mind. Every aspect of the show, from the script to the puppets and even the costumes, were crafted by this exceptional pair of creative minds.

Combining the physical comedy of Buster Keaton and Bill Irwin, and the puppetry of Hansjürgen Fettig and the Old Trout Puppet Workshop, Alex & Olmsted examine the concept of house and home in a creative and humorous way.
