Based on the 1938 novella “Who Goes There?” by John W. Campbell—the same source material as John Carpenter’s 1982 film The Thing—the Howard Hawks production The Thing from Another World is a great slice of classic 1950s sci-fi/horror. At a remote outpost near the North Pole, a re-supply crew from the United States Air Force find remnants of what appears to have been a flying saucer and a maybe-alien life form in the ice near it. With a cast led by Margaret Sheridan, Kenneth Tobey, and Robert Cornthwaite, with James Arness (Gunsmoke) as The Thing.
