Webster University Film Series Presents The Bloody Lady + shorts

(Viktor Kubal, 1981, Czechoslovakia, 74 minutes) New 2K restoration! From the same distributor that brought us Son of the White Mare, a slate of new restorations of Slovak animator Viktor Kubal’s films is now making the rounds, with his 1981 feature film The Bloody Lady being the centerpiece. The Bloody Lady is an adaptation of the Čachtická castle and Báthory folk tale that is often cited as the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Our main character, Lady Elisabeth Báthory, lives in a gothic castle and leads a happy life. After an incident in the forest that requires her to be nursed back to health by a woodsman, Lady Báthory gives him her heart (literally), and upon return to the castle she begins draining the blood of all those around. Showing with: “Cinema” (1977, 6:33), “The Ladder” (1978, 5:05), “The Microscope” (1981, 5:37), and “The Idol” (1989, 5:11). All films in Slovak with English subtitles. It is $8 for the general public; $7 for seniors, Webster alumni and students from other schools; $6 for Webster University staff and faculty; $0 for Webster students with proper ID
