Gun Crazy in 35mm

Screening in 35mm! One of the highlights of what Paul Schrader called “Phase 3” of the film noir era, Joseph H. Lewis’s Gun Crazy stars John Dall, whom we just saw in Rope two weeks ago, as a nice but gun-loving boy fixated on crack shot Annie Laurie Starr (the Welsh-born Peggy Cummins), whom he meets at a carnival trick shot show. MacKinley Cantor adapted his short story with the help of then-blacklisted Dalton Trumbo (credited as Millard Kaufman), and the resulting film is something of a Bonnie & Clyde story replete with far more than its share of cinematic flourishes—to name just one, watch for the POV bank robbery scene from the inside of the getaway car, which was improvised on the spot and with only the key players knowing what was going on. Unless otherwise noted, admission is: $8 for the general public$7 for seniors, Webster alumni and students from other schools$6 for Webster University staff and facultyFree for Webster students with proper ID. We offer general admission seating with payment of cash, check, or credit. Note: Last-minute changes may occur. The Winifred Moore Auditorium is the home of the Webster University Film Series. Originally used as a chapel, it now boasts the most comfortable theatre seats around. (Some of the original pews can be seen in the hallways of Webster Hall.) The auditorium seats 240. In addition to film screenings, the auditorium hosts jazz and classical concerts, Opera Studio performances, lectures, town hall meetings, and other university events. The Winifred Moore Auditorium is located at 470 E. Lockwood Ave.
