Genealogists are often on the search for that elusive relative that is supposed to be buried in the corner of the family cemetery but there is nothing marked. Grave dowsing is one way to search for the spot. Although this technique is often questions, others swear by it. Shirley Daiber, who has been dowsing for graves for over 30 years, will be demonstrating this technique at the Vaughn Cemetery. The cemetery was recently re-surveyed and the boundaries have expanded. The Madison County Genealogical Society and the Wood River Heritage Council are using this opportunity to look for the potential for additional graves and to provide the public a brief history of this historic cemetery and its residents. There will be extra dowsing rods available for those who would like to try the technique themselves. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own. Join us on this exploration of history and the cemetery.
