Iker Sanchez Silva - The Ghosts who Tend the Garden
Los Fantasmas Que Cuidan El Jardín (The Ghosts That Tend the Garden) is a solo exhibition by Basque artist Iker Sánchez Silva at Untitled Fine Art in St. Louis. The exhibition explores memory, inheritance, displacement, and the ways places continue to live within us long after their histories have passed.
Drawing from his Basque heritage and personal relationship to landscape, Sánchez Silva’s paintings explore memory, inheritance, displacement, and the traces that places leave behind. Botanical forms and vegetation appear throughout his work as living reminders of family, history, and home. Recognizable forms gradually shift toward abstraction, inviting viewers to consider the moment when an image begins to hold something beyond what it depicts. His interdisciplinary practice moves between painting, sound, performance, and movement, informed by his background as a musician and orchestra conductor. In 2025, Sánchez Silva developed and prepared work during a residency at The Luminary in St. Louis, and had a solo show at The Blue Hour on Cherokee St. (formerly Reese Gallery). He has also performed at Dissonant Works, continuing an ongoing exploration of the relationship between visual art, music, and embodied performance.
The opening will include short music and dance/movement performance with local dancer, Jane Tellini, bringing Sánchez Silva’s visual and musical practices together in a live setting.
