Historian and Museum Curator Nick Sacco will discuss the creation of the park’s new exhibit about the history of slavery in St. Louis. Using primary sources, historical artifacts, and individual stories of enslavement, this exhibit introduces visitors to the ways slavery shaped St. Louis's political, economic, and social history for 100 years. Most St. Louisans today aren’t aware of the stories of tragedy and resistance that resulted from the local slave trade. This exhibit addresses some of these erasures in our history and collective memory. Nick in his presentation will explain the purpose of creating this exhibit, discuss the collaboration of the team of local historians and educators who consulted on the project, and highlight some of the stories about this often-neglected history.
The program is free. Please call 314-842-1867 ext. 230 to make reservations.
