Special Program: And Lincoln Wrote


The Field House Museum is pleased to welcome Dick Benach on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 1:00 PM. This program features Dick Benach as Junior Officer Robert Zavel. Lieutenant Colonel Zavel was assigned to the security detail protecting President Lincoln at the Summer White House located just north of Washington, D.C. Zavel had almost daily contact with the President, and observed Mr. Lincoln with family members, guests, and official visitors. On November 14th, Lt. Colonel Zavel (Dick Benach) will share some personal memories and will read some of the President’s oral and written messages addressed to the people and country he loved so well... The UNITED States of America. This program is free with limited availability in person. Reservations must be made in advance on our website, by calling the Museum at 314-421-4689, or by emailing [email protected]. About the speaker: Dick is a 50 year Mason/Shriner, a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and a Life Member of the Lincoln Forum and the Lincoln Presenters Association. Dick also serves as a Director on the boards of the George B. Vashon Museum of African American History and Lutheran Resale Services. Dick regularly appears as the poet, Eugene Field and the merchant/banker, Robert Campbell.
