Missouri Professional Communicators will host the free program, "Monumental Debate: Remove or Reinterpret," featuring Lynne Jackson, founder and president of The Dred Scott Heritage Foundation and great-great-granddaughter of Dred and Harriet Scott; and Dr. Jody Sowell, president of the Missouri Historical Society. Jackson is overseeing a new monument to be installed at the grave of Dred Scott in Calvary Cemetery. Sowell led the project to create interpretive labels for the Thomas Jefferson statue located inside the Missouri History Museum that examine contradictions between Jefferson’s words about freedom and personal practices concerning slaves.
