Singer/Songwriter Showcase - Manik Myk with Brian Andrew Marek
Manik Myk aka Michael Thompson began writing songs at age 14. He has written over 100 of them. He majored in Philosophy and studied jazz at Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas. He lived in Germany for a year where he supplemented his income by busking. He has played with various local bands and solo at open mics. He has probably been to more local open mics than anyone in St Louis.

Brian Andrew Marek wears many hats. Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, label owner, engineer, mixer, and producer, just to start with. He has assumed these various roles in the St. Louis area for more years than he cares to remember, playing in many bands of varying success (including Angus Tweed, Popcorn, Rocket Park, Bargain Basement, and The Vertigo Swirl) and releasing solo material in his own name (usually playing most if not all instruments).
The general thrust of Marek's solo work is pop/rock, or, to break it down further, straight ahead rock with strong elements of power pop, psychedelia, and progressive rock. Catchy melodies, ear-catching chord progressions, and literate lyrics are the hallmarks of his songwriting. Influences are legion, but a random survey might include The Beatles, Syd Barrett, Badfinger, Big Star, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, XTC, Family, and Brian Wilson. Critically acclaimed in a number of publications, Marek nonetheless still awaits a larger public reputation. Discover him today.
