SLU Stem Cell Registration Drive

Please join us for the SLU Stem Cell Registration Drive on Saturday, April 6 from 10 AM-2 PM at the Saint Louis University Clocktower (220 N Spring Ave, St. Louis, MO 63108). Free parking will be available from 10 AM-2:30 PM at the Laclede Parking Garage (3642 Laclede Ave, St. Louis, MO 63103). Along with the stem cell registration drive, the event will have family-friendly activities, including food trucks, face painting, real-life princesses, balloon artists, and a student-run business market! The drive is in support of one-year-old Clementine Blackham, who was diagnosed last March with an extraordinarily rare and newly discovered genetic mutation. She is the first female in history to be diagnosed with this mutation in the TLR8 gene. Her only chance of survival was a life-saving bone marrow transplant. When her older sister FinnLee was not her perfect match, the family was at a lot. The only thing that saved her life was a donor off the National Stem Cell Donor Registry. While Clementine was extremely lucky to have found her perfect match off of the registry, her parents realize this is not the case for most families. The Blackhams searched and hosted donor drives all over the world to find Clementine’s perfect match, and they hope to use their daughter’s story to help as many people as possible. You can learn more about Clementine’s story on her mom’s TikTok (@clementinesmomma or https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8vXctd4/). SLU Fraternity and Sorority Life will be putting on the drive in collaboration with SLU Student Government Association. This cause is especially close to SLU’s heart since the Blackham family has been staying at a Ronald McDonald House in St. Louis since July. SLU Alpha Delta Pi volunteers once a week at the house, and during this time, they have formed an amazing friendship with the Blackham family. In the fall, they even asked Clementine’s big sister FinnLee to be their sweetheart for the year! FinnLee embodies what it means to be an ADPi. She is the best big sister and radiates love, understanding, and support way beyond her 4 years. To learn more, you can visit our website at https://www.dkms.org/get-involved/virtual-drives/slu2024.
