Unraveling the Mysteries of the Dead Sea Scrolls
The Dead Sea Scrolls, which include the earliest copies of the books of the Hebrew Bible, are considered the most important archaeological find of the modern era, and one of Israel's richest treasures. The Israel Antiquities Authority, who hold a collection of over 1,000 manuscripts made up of 25,000 fragments in their most secure vaults, is charged with the conservation of these precious treasures.
In his lecture, Dr. Joe Uziel, head of the Dead Sea Scrolls Unit at the Israel Antiquities Authority, will tell us about the history of their discovery, the work being done to conserve these fragile documents, and how new technologies and scientific advances are revealing secrets never known before about the sacred scrolls and the people who wrote them.
