Who Actually Discovered That The Universe Is Expanding? - Dr. Joseph Marcus, M.D.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, the discovery that the universe is expanding was predicted using Einstein's General Relativity theory, and then observed directly by analyzing the light from supergiant stars in other galaxies. Dr. Marcus will talk about how the discovery made, and which astronomers were primarily responsible. There is still some controversy over how and when the discovery was made. Co-sponsored by the St. Louis Astronomical Society and the NASA MO Space Grant Consortium at Washington University.
