Poetry Panel at John Burroughs School with National Poetry Series
Join us for an extraordinary evening with moderator Imani Perry - National Book Award Winner for South to America: A Journey Below the Mason-Dixon to Understand the Soul of a Nation. Perry will lead a conversation about language and the impact of poetry in keeping language alive — beyond the shorthand of text, Twitter, AI, and email. Panelists include:
Natasha Trethewey - 19th Poet Laureate of the USA & Pulitzer Prize Winner for Native Guard
Michael Cunningham - Pulitzer Prize Winner for The Hours
Maggie Smith - winner of multiple awards and the author of the poem, Good Bones
In addition, Shangri-La Hou, one of five National Student Poets for 2023 - 2024 and a member of the Class of 2024 at Burroughs, will share her award winning poetry.
You will be captivated by the voices and perspectives of some of the country's most renowned poets and writers. The event will be in Haertter Hall on the Burroughs campus. All proceeds from ticket sales benefit the National Poetry Series.
