Join conductor Ed Jacobs and the Metropolitan Orchestra of St. Louis for live classical music on Saturday, August 30 at 6:00 PM at John Burroughs School. Jacobs has crafted a delightful program entitled “Love is in The Air.” Bring your friends and family to this free, outdoor concert in the Maritz Quadrangle in the center of the campus, along with a lawn chair and picnic basket, and let MOSL take you on a musical journey of love, including Elgar's "Salut d'Amour," Dvořák's haunting second “Slavonic Dance,” selections from Bizet's “Carmen”, Puccini’s beloved “Nessun dorma” and selections by Strauss and Duke Ellington.
Guest soloist Matt Kuebler performs two enchanting, showcase works for an instrument not normally known for its feature role–the tuba!
This concert features the artistry of some of Ladue’s finest professional and student musicians. John Burroughs’ Orchestra Director and MOSL bassist Anita Hagerman joins the ensemble, as do Burroughs student violinists Shulynn Ragland and Andrew Fei, plus student percussionist Norah Murphy from Horton Watkins High School. Students participate in these performances as part of the “Sharing the Stand” program, which places a small select group of young musicians next to seasoned professionals for all rehearsals and concerts and for which they receive a stipend.
Don’t miss this celebration of fine classical music – right in the heart of Ladue!
