The Dhoruba Collective returns to Joe's Cafe!

Jeffery Dhoruba moved to STL from KC a few years back and immediately made an impression. He is a jazz drummer with serious chops in a town that has a drummer shortage, period, much less, jazz drummers. A great jazz drummer is a beautiful thing and is totally unique in the world of music. Not many would disagree if you gave Joe Charles the title of greatest jazz drummer to ever come out of STL. One of his proteges was Gary Sykes who now holds the title of respected elder of drummers in STL. When Jeffery got the Kranzberg nod as an artist in residence, Gary was one of the first to shout from the mountaintop that it was well earned! Jeffery has the respect of the elders. And he deserves it. He has been playing with a lot of different groups as drummers often do. This person picks ya up, that person picks ya up. Everyone needs a drummer! But Jeffery is more than a hired gun. He is an advanced thinker and composer in the world of jazz. And he is still really young, so everyone is excited for the future of The Dhoruba Collective! What to expect? High end jazz that isn't stuck in the past. This is a young band that will push innovation while honoring the giants upon whose shoulders they stand. Traditional yet always expanding. Very dynamic and aggressive yet with the ability to provide contrast in a millisecond by playing what's not there. These are young, brilliant, high end jazz folks that take tremendous pride in what they do. Expect it to be hot!
