Welcome Neighbor STL hosts an Afghan drive-thru: This Friday, Welcome Neighbor STL and the First Unitarian Church of St. Louis are teaming up for a special multi-course drive-thru feast that showcases Afghanistan’s delicious culinary heritage—and supports area refugees, too. The event, from 3-5 p.m., costs $40 and consists of a five-course dinner that includes dishes such as bolani (a vegetable-stuffed pastry), mantu (dumplings filled with ground beef and lentils), and gosh e-fil (a sweet fried pastry dough topped with cardamom, powdered sugar, and pistachios). All of the food is prepared by members of the local Afghan refugee community, who are eager to share their talents and culture and earn income as they build their lives here in St. Louis.
