The Division of Civilian Oversight (DCO) is proud to
announce its Inaugural Roundtable II, focusing on "The Impact of Incarceration on Community
Health and Mortality." This critical event will take place on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from
6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Emerson Performance Center, Harris-Stowe State University, 3026
Laclede Av. 63103.
This Roundtable aims to foster a deeper understanding of the far-reaching consequences of
incarceration on the well-being of detainees, communities, families, and individuals. Experts,
community leaders, and affected individuals will engage in a robust discussion exploring various
facets of this complex issue, including physical and mental health disparities, mortality rates, and
the broader social determinants of health impacted by the justice system.
"We believe it is crucial to address the systemic challenges that incarceration poses to
community health," said Commissioner Dr. Barbara Milon. "This roundtable will provide a
platform for meaningful dialogue and the development of actionable strategies to mitigate these
impacts."
Attendees will also have the unique opportunity to experience a student art display provided by
STL ArtWorks. This exhibition will offer a powerful visual commentary on the themes of
incarceration and community, providing a creative and impactful dimension to the evening's
discussions.
