4-H Youth Public Speaking Competition and Clinic
April Demonstration and Speech Contest + Clinic:
Please join us for St. Louis 4-H’s Demonstration and Speech Contest + Clinic on Wednesday, April 10th , at Brittany Woods Middle School in University City! This event will be open house style from 5pm to 8pm, you are welcome to stay the whole time or come whenever your schedule allows. Plan to stay about 30 minutes at a minimum depending on how many presentations you want to deliver. We plan on having a variety of projects, contests, speeches, attendance prizes, and a provided light dinner.
Youth participants will have the opportunity to participate in seven different contest categories: Demonstration, Extemporaneous speech, Prepared speech, Fashion Revue, Interpretation, Technology Assisted speech, and Business pitch. These categories each have three levels according to age: Junior, Intermediate, and Senior. You do not need to have previous experience in a category to participate. Each presentation will be judged and given a Blue 1st, Red 2nd, and White 3rd place ribbon awards. Youth ages 5-7 can also try out any contest or try “pick a question” or “show and tell” for a Green Participation Ribbon.
Participants will also have the opportunity to attend a scheduled Coaching Clinics where instead of competing, youth will be able to practice and warmup whichever type of speaking category they want while gaining feedback! These coaching clinics will start at 5:30pm and 6:30pm.

Our county event will follow the same rules and scoring but be more relaxed and casual 😊. Additionally, see attached for the demonstration worksheet/template which is a great start for those learn how to make presentations!
