The 2025 Black Ball: Building a Legacy is an annual celebration benefiting the Michael Brown Sr. Chosen for Change Organization. Scheduled for Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, this year’s event marks over a decade of community-driven work inspired by the life and legacy of Michael Brown Jr. Founded by Cal and Michael Brown Sr. in the wake of Michael Brown Jr.’s murder in 2014, Chosen for Change has evolved into a powerful force for healing, justice, and youth empowerment. The organization offers critical support to families impacted by gun violence and trauma, creates opportunities for youth leadership, and works to shift the narrative around community safety and systemic accountability. The Black Ball commemorates this ongoing legacy with an evening of reflection, remembrance, and renewed commitment. Guests will experience a meaningful program that includes a keynote address from a nationally recognized speaker, a cocktail reception, a plated dinner, live entertainment, and moments that honor the resilience of a movement that continues to grow. More than just a gala, the Black Ball serves as a platform to highlight the enduring impact of Chosen for Change’s work—building relationships, uplifting community voices, and fostering spaces for healing and action. Contributions raised through the event support year-round programming and advocacy designed to disrupt cycles of violence and expand opportunity for young people across the region. Sponsorship opportunities and additional event information are available at chosenforchange.org.
