Central Illinois Hosta Society Meeting

The Central Illinois Hosta Society will meet on Tuesday, June 21st at 6 p.m. at the garden of Kay Dye, 4017 S. Autumn Drive, Mapleton.
Kay Dye has been gardening at her current location for the past eight years and has been pleasantly surprised. Watering had always been a problem at her previous garden in Edelstein, where she lived for 24 years. Now she has a well and city water. Kay was able to move plants from Edelstein to Mapleton for a year until her house was sold. Kay tends to get 'hooked' on a species and then can't have enough of them. First came hostas followed by Japanese maples, ginkgoes, hydrangeas, liliums (Martagons, Asiatic, Omnipet, and Trumpet), primulas, ferns (she learned how to grow them from spores), and most recently sempervivums. Kay just keeps cramming them all in. She also has a special attraction this year...a sinkhole. She doesn't know what to do about it; it just appeared and she hopes to get some advice from any experienced attendees.
For the program, Mary Zehner from the Audubon Society will present, "Attracting Hummingbirds and Other Birds to Your Garden".
Refreshments and a garden tour begin at 6 p.m. followed by the meeting and program at 6:30 p.m. Please bring a lawn chair.
