I Breathed a Song
The Music: “I Breathed a Song” will feature the Continuum Vocal Ensemble interpreting choral pieces based on powerful works of poetry, with texts from literary greats like Sara Teasdale, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Stephen Crane, and the St. Louis premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw‘s “The Isle” based on William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.” We’ll also be premiering two brand new choral works – James Keller’s “To the Universe,” and “Pierce the Veil” from Trace the Sky by Jens Ibsen.
The Setting: Leaning into our mission to invite you into innovative spaces, this concert will take place in one of St. Louis’s newest and most unique cultural settings, the 21C Museum Hotel. This concert will take place in one of 21c’s modern art galleries, a first for this amazing new venue in downtown STL.
The Experience: Our focus will be the music, but like all of our events, we’ll be mixing in opportunities for meaningful social connection and interaction with the singers and fellow audience members — as well as a cash bar!
