Beyond Particles - the Elegant Universe of Strings --- Megan Dickson, U. of Missouri, St. Louis
Ms. Dickson will discuss String Theory, which replaces the concept of point-like particles of particle physics with a theory of one-dimensional objects called strings. String Theory aims to reconcile quantum mechanics and general relativity. It offers a unified description of all fundamental forces and particles. This theory could provide potential insights into the nature of the universe, including the possibility of multiple dimensions and the unification of all forces. She is a graduate student at UMSL, studying physics and astrophysics. Program cosponsored by St. Louis Astronomical Society and NASA Missouri Space Grant Consortium at Washington University.
