a concert inspired by the four monumental statues by Walker Hancock at Soldiers Memorial. Each sculpture—Courage, Sacrifice, Vision, and Loyalty—represents enduring human values shaped by the trials of war. This unique program pairs each figure with a powerful musical work that brings its meaning to life: Elizabeth Poston – Trio for Flute, Clarinet, and Harp (Courage) Niloufar Nourbakhsh – White Helmets, White as Death (Sacrifice) John Cage – Living Room Music (Vision) Claude Debussy – Trio for Flute, Viola, and Harp (Loyalty) Through these works, The Four Figures explores how art transforms conflict into creativity, reflection, and hope. From Poston’s quiet heroism as a WWII resistance agent to Cage’s radical reimagining of sound in the atomic age, this concert highlights how composers have turned history into expressions of humanity. Presented in collaboration with the Missouri Historical Society and Landmarks Association of St. Louis, this event invites listeners to experience Soldier’s Memorial as both a historic landmark and a living space for artistic connection. Sunday, November 23, 2-3:15pm Soldiers Memorial 2nd floor,1315 Chestnut Street, St. Louis, MO, 63103 FREE Reservations Required
