FUNky Folk Fest: An Interactive Concert for Kids and Their Grownups

GRAMMY WINNERS, Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer are trailblazers in children's music and have been connecting families through music for over 30 years. Their superb harmonies are backed by instrumental virtuosity on the acoustic and electric guitar, fve-string banjo, mandolin, cello banjo, ukulele, steel drum and many other instruments. Over 5,000 shows in performing arts centers, schools, folk festivals, community centers, libraries and children's festivals have given Cathy and Marcy the superb skills to deliver a show that is fun, wacky, energetic, participatory and meaningful.

The duo's latest release, "DANCIN' IN THE KITCHEN: songs for ALL families" is their 44th release. The songs not only refect the growing diversity of family structures in the U.S. and around the world, they highlight the idea that families are bound by love, with music celebrating that love and diversity. Cathy and Marcy have partnered with the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Welcoming Schools Program dedicating a portion of the album's proceeds to the program. Four songs on the new CD have received recognition: Cathy's song "I Belong To A Family" was a Finalist in John Lennon Songwriting Contest, her song "Twins" was awarded Gold in the Children's category of the Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest and her songs "Dancin' in the Kitchen" and "I Belong to a Family" were runners up in the same event. In 2004 and 2005, Cathy and Marcy were awarded back-to-back GRAMMY® Awards for their children's recordings "cELLAbration: A Tribute to Ella Jenkins" and "Bon Appetit!: Musical Food Fun!".

The dynamic duo has been further honored by their peers with twelve other GRAMMY® nominations for children's and folk music. Their catalogue of over 70 audio and video recordings have received additional awards from organizations like Parents' Choice Foundation, The Oppenheim Toy Portfolio, American Library Association and Early Childhood News.

The Washington Area Music Association has honored Cathy and Marcy with over 60 WAMMIE Awards. An eclectic folk festival on their own terms, Cathy and Marcy have entertained the Queen of Thailand, sung at the White House Easter Egg Roll, been keynote singers for the AFL-CIO, performed at hundreds of folk festivals, appeared on the "Today Show" and on National Public Radio. They've toured the US, Canada, Great Britain, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Israel.

An entertaining and engaging interactive show, Cathy and Marcy perform on a variety of instruments including electric and acoustic guitars, banjos, mandolin, ukulele, percussion and inspring homemade instruments (oatmeal box banjo, cigar box electric guitar). The duo brings their music to life in a memorable and meaningful way. Drawing on their repertoire of over 250 songs and 30+ years of performing, Cathy and Marcy's shows bring families together and allow kids to have fun and learn at the same time.
