On Sunday, May 22, The Wonton Project is hosting “Wonton & Friends Bite Market” at Sor Ynez’s outdoor garden space from 4-7 PM to showcase some of Philadelphia AAPI food concepts. Vendors — spanning Kalaya, Tabachoy, Hardena, and more — will be selling and displaying their dish of choice along with donating a portion of proceeds to SEAMAAC. The pop-up will also feature complimentary beverages and refreshments to go along with dishes.
The Wonton Project launched in April 2021 following the violence against the Asian community in Atlanta as a part of the nationwide #doughsomething campaign. Restaurateur Ellen Yin’s wonton recipe stems from her mother’s original home-style Chinese wonton recipe as a way to celebrate her culture. The Wonton Project benefits organizations locally and nationally that advocate for civil and human rights of Asian Americans, including Asian Americans United and Asian Americans Advancing Justice.
