June 12 - July 25, 2015 in the Lorenzo Homar Gallery Opening Reception June 12 Born in Philadelphia, Jose Luis Cortes is a painter, video and performance artist, and educator. His gauche newspaper series in the 1990s were personal records of Gay Latino life in New York City.
Cortes has exhibited at the Newyorican Poets Cafe, el Museo del Barrio, and el Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico and in galleries across the country. He has also been represented in exhibitions curated by Visual Aids.
This is part of the citywide celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Reminder Day demonstrations in Philadelphia. The exhibition and the panel discussion are a collaboration between Taller Puertorriqueño and GALAEI.
