Refugees Then and Now - What has changed?

June 20th is World Refugee Day, a day dedicated by the United Nations to raising awareness for forcibly displaced people worldwide. The situation of refugees has made it to headlines in the past year with the arrival of hundreds of thousands of Syrians and others fleeing war and other crises on European shores. Today, there are more displaced persons in the world than at any time since World War II.
This program aims to raise awareness for the situation of refugees then and now. We will hear from Francis W. Hoeber, whose parents fled Europe from the Nazis in the 1930s to seek refuge in the United States, and someone (tba) who recently received asylum here in the U.S. Judith Bernstein-Baker from HIAS Pennsylvania, an organization that works around the world to protect refugees, will talk about the current situation in Europe and elsewhere and how history can guide us in our response. The discussion will be moderated by Mark McGuigan, US Program Director of Action Reconciliation Service for Peace. Greetings by Ralf Wiedemann, Honorary Consul of Germany.
