Arcadia University's 20th Annual Empty Bowl

On Monday, November 18th, the Community Service Office will be holding our 20th annual Empty Bowl Benefit Dinner. This is one of the most important community service programs the University provides, for it brings together the surrounding community with our campus community.

Our purpose for the Empty Bowl Dinner is to provide awareness of the hunger and homelessness that exists in our area and abroad. Each year the proceeds go to two organizations assisting the hungry and the homeless: one national and one international. This year the proceeds will go to the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Philadelphia, which is a local agency that provides temporary shelter and food to homeless families. The second agency is the Heifer Project International, which provides food and income-producing animals as well as training in management and farming around the world to families in need.

On the night of the Empty Bowl Dinner each person will choose one of the donated handcrafted bowls in which they will consume soup donated from the many businesses, schools, and individuals from Arcadia University and the surrounding community. The bowl is then taken home to serve as a reminder of the many people who eat from an empty bowl everyday. There is always a wide variety of creative bowls to select from!

Admission to the dinner is $12 a ticket for students and $15 for non-students, as well as a non-perishable donation. The event itself takes place in our Grey Towers Castle. We will be having two dinner sections from 4:30-6 and from 6:30-8:30. Tickets are on sale now in the Community Service Office in Dilworth Hall. The week prior to the dinner we will be selling tickets in the chat, library, and dining hall as well. Tickets will also be on sale at the door. Contact the Community Service Office at 215-572-4000 for more information. We hope to see you there, it is a truly wonderful event!
