The Clay Studio presents the opening of Making Place Matter, the inaugural exhibition of its newly built home in Philadelphia at 1425 N. American Street. We worked with a Council of South Kensington neighbors and artists to help design the gallery to be inspiring and welcoming. Using clay and cultural heritage as a source of inspiration, Making Place Matter will feature Peruvian-born artist Kukuli Velarde, American-born, Massachusetts-based artist Molly Hatch, and Egyptian American artist Ibrahim Said, now based in North Carolina. Each artist explores the idea of a place with regard to personal history, cultural heritage, and social justice. The opening event includes tours of the gallery, hands-on clay art-making, and opportunities to meet the artists. The event is free and open to the public.
