WHAT YOU CAN DO AT THE AUGUST 24th DRILL:
Engage and learn with your community. As an active participant, you will role play with the North CapHill Emergency Hub personnel and neighbors at multiple support stations.
Q: How?
A: Using scripts made available to you at the Greeter station. In less than an hour, you will learn about support activities at multiple Emergency Response Stations. As one example, at the Education station you can get schooled on how to achieve a more resilient residence by stocking up on important emergency supplies & equipment at your home.
Q: What is a script?
A: Examples of scripts: What local hospitals are open? How do I shut off the main gas line into a house that is leaking gas? I have a child with a wound that might require stitches, where do I go? Is the tap water drinkable? Are the Montlake and University bridges traversable? I am diabetic, my insulin is buried in my collapsed house; where can I find a replacement supply? And a whole lot more!
Q: Why should you be there?
A: You can scope out the nature of a collective emergency response in which your neighbors are your lifeline. Engaged participants will be better prepared with your community for the time when it is not a drill.
After a major disaster, city services will be overwhelmed and a network of about 60 organized Seattle Hubs, including ours, will activate in predetermined locations.
