Board Member Development Academy


The seven-session program will be held in person at the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro (301 North Elm Street, Suite 100) every Thursday from September 22 through November 3. Dinner will be available starting at 5:00 pm with the program starting at 5:30 pm and ending at 7:30 pm. Free parking is available in the adjacent parking deck.

Program participants will be taught by experts in their field and leave the Board Development Academy with:

--Practical knowledge and best practices to strengthen the governance of nonprofit organizations
--New connections to local experts in key aspects of nonprofit board service
--New relationships and a network of peers who are interested in board service and committed to the success of local nonprofit organizations
--Resources that can be used today and referred to in the future as you continue to learn and grow as board leaders

Schedule and Board Development Academy Faculty:

--September 22: Roles and Responsibilities of a Board (Mildred Poole, Community Volunteer and Training Associate with Leading to Change)
--September 29: The Art and Science of Nonprofit Boards (Dr. Pamela Palmer, President and CEO of Pamela Palmer and Associates)
--October 6: Fiduciary Responsibilities (David Kyger, Partner at Fox Rothschild LLP and Robert Saunders, Partner at Brooks Pierce)
--October 13: Strategic Planning (Calvin Riley, President of Nehemiah- The Leadership Company)
--October 20: Financial Literacy for Nonprofit Boards (Marci Peace, Vice President of Finance and Administration at the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro)
--October 27: Fundraising for Boards (Tonya Hayes, Leadership Giving Director at Victory Junction)
--November 3: Mock Board Meeting and Celebration (Derrick Sides, Executive Director of the Barnabas Network)
