BILLY CHILDS QUARTET w/special guest SEAN JONES
5-time grammy-award winner and 16-time grammy-nominated pianist and composer, Billy Childs remains one of the most diversely prolific & acclaimed artists working in music today. Childs' canon of original compositions and arrangements has garnered him the 2013 Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a composer’s award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and two Chamber Music America grants. Childs has performed and recorded with Freddie Hubbard, J.J. Johnson, Joe Henderson, and Wynton Marsalis and has performed with such luminaries as Yo-Yo Ma, Chick Corea, The Kronos Quartet, Dave Holland, Ron Carter, and Chris Botti.
This quartet features trumpeter Sean Jones who played as lead trumpeter in the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra led by Wynton Marsalis, and then as a member of the SFJAZZ Collective. Jones has been prominently featured in recordings and performances with many major figures in jazz, including Illinois Jacquet, Jimmy Heath, Frank Foster, Nancy Wilson, Dianne Reeves, Gerald Wilson, and Marcus Miller.
