Town Hall’s Spring Artist-in-Residence, Jahnvi Madan, takes us on a journey, reflecting sounds and stories from Seattle’s vibrant Jazz past into the present. Madan will share an hour-long set of original pieces, improvisation, and arrangements that re-work and engage anew with moments from Seattle’s past. In an evening of musical exploration, she swings through the eras, building new compositions from recorded scraps from a long-gone Seattle club, even placing two pieces next to each other that were written 100 years apart.
In a time when history is disappearing, Madan strives to celebrate and center the ongoing story of Jazz — a Black American Music — in her hometown, by celebrating its lasting impact and sharing an evening of joy.
