Who We Are: Healing and Empowering Women, is a nonprofit that provides a safe space and holistic care and support for adult women in the DMV who are survivors of or victims domestic violence. Our main focus is improving women’s lives through physical health and wellness programs, and we also provide prevention education and mental health support. Our goal and mission is to provide comprehensive services and support to empower survivors and help women maximize their quality of life, and improve and maintain a healthy and independent lifestyle.
What We Do:
HEW’s program objectives include ensuring women have access to fitness and wellness programs that will help build their self-esteem and self-importance, giving them a renewed sense of purpose and allowing them to focus on self-care. A variety of dance, exercise and fitness classes will be offered with a focus on the positive effects that physical exercise has on brain function. Our mental health program will include behavioral health services to help equip women with an understanding of trauma and healthy strategies to cope with stress, anxiety and depression. We provide a nurturing, caring environment that serves as a place of healing, warmth, growth and improvement, as an alternative to more institutionalized treatment that might otherwise be available. By providing a welcoming and safe space we hope to touch and improve the lives of our clients; and encourage women to cope with adversity in positive ways, improve well-being, and daily functioning.
HEW helps women to learn about and understand the importance of physical health, self-care, self-worth and confidence. We will focus on helping women lead happy and productive lives as well as helping women to recover from and heal after difficult times in their lives.

'I see art as a beautiful medium of turning the pain into something good, turning the negative into positive and it’s a great therapy method in which we can express ourselves to the world.'
