AWP Offsite: Adroit, American Poetry Review, Kenyon Review, and Pleiades Present LIT UP

Four prestigious literary journals are banding together to bring some of the biggest names and brightest stars in the literary world to Elliott Bay Book Company. The Adroit Journal, American Poetry Review, Kenyon Review and Pleiades are hosting the LIT UP Thursday Reading featuring poets and writers such as Victoria Chang, Erika Wurth, Chen Chen, Faylita Hicks Dana Levin, Philip Metres, Lee Ann Roripaugh and Seattle native, Luther Hughes. The reading will be followed by a celebration afterparty at Oddfellows with DJ Gold Chisme. The first 100 arrivals to the reading will receive a free drink ticket for the afterparty. Sarah Ghazal Ali is the author of Theophanies (Alice James Books, 2024), selected as the Editors' Choice for the 2022 Alice James Award. A Djanikian Scholar and winner of the 2022 Sewanee Review Poetry Prize, her poems and essays appear in POETRY, American Poetry Review, Pleiades, the Rumpus, and elsewhere. She is an associate editor for West Branch and a Stadler Fellow in Literary Editing at Bucknell University. Victoria Chang’s most recent book of poetry, The Trees Witness Everything was published by Copper Canyon Press and Corsair Books in the U.K. in 2022, and was named one of the Best Books of 2022 by the New Yorker and The Guardian. Her nonfiction book, Dear Memory (Milkweed Editions), was published in 2021 and was named a favorite nonfiction book of 2021 by Electric Literature and Kirkus. Her previous poetry book, OBIT (Copper Canyon Press, 2020), was named a New York Times Notable Book, a Time Must-Read Book, and received the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award in Poetry, and the PEN/Voelcker Award. She has received a Guggenheim Fellowship. She lives in Los Angeles and is Core Faculty within Antioch’s low-residency MFA Program. She is the current poetry editor of the New York Times. Chen Chen’s second book of poetry, Your Emergency Contact Has Experienced an Emergency, is out now from BOA Editions and Bloodaxe Books (UK). His debut, When I Grow Up I Want to Be a List of Further Possibilities (BOA, 2017; Bloodaxe, 2019), was longlisted for the National Book Award and won the Thom Gunn Award, among other honors. Chen is also the author of five chapbooks, including the forthcoming Explodingly Yours (Ghost City Press, 2023), and the forthcoming book of craft essays, In Cahoots with the Rabbit God (Noemi Press, 2024). His work appears in many publications, including Poetry, Poem-a-Day, and three editions of The Best American Poetry (2015, 2019, & 2021). He has received two Pushcart Prizes and fellowships from Kundiman, the National Endowment for the Arts, and United States Artists. Chanda Feldman is the author of Approaching the Fields (LSU Press). Her new book of poetry, Glance, is forthcoming from LSU Press in 2024. Chanda's recent poems appear in AGNI, Gettysburg Review, Poetry, and The Southern Review. Her work is anthologized in The Best American Poetry (Scribner, 2021) and Furious Flower’s Seeding the Future of African American Poetry (Northwestern University Press, 2019). She has received numerous awards and fellowships including from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, the Cave Canem Foundation, Loghaven Artist Residency, the MacDowell Colony, the National Endowment for the Arts, and she was a Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford University. Chanda is an assistant professor of Creative Writing at Oberlin College.
