Composer and director Shaudi Bianca Vahdat brings her timely project The Golden Door: an American immigrant song cycle to the Central District’s Seattle Open Arts Place.
The Golden Door is a new musical theatre song cycle based on the real words of people in American immigrant communities. A cast of five standout Seattle musical theatre performers, joined by a live band, brings to life a series of songs drawn from interviews conducted by Vahdat with members of BIPOC immigrant communities across the U.S. Using these interviews, historical documents, and her own identity as a second-generation Iranian-American, Vahdat has crafted a show that honors, explores, and celebrates these diverse stories.
