After twenty-eight years of writing your favorite television shows, Hollywood screenwriter Michael Jamin (King of the Hill, Beavis & Butt-Head, Just Shoot Me, Wilfred, Maron, Rules of Engagement, Tacoma FD) is stepping out from behind the camera. His critically acclaimed one-man show, A Paper Orchestra, is playing at Seattle Open Arts Place located at 1406 18th Avenue Seattle, WA 98122. The show will run from February 20th to February 23rd, with performances scheduled for Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 2:00 pm. Adapted from his bestselling collection of short stories, which Vulture named “Best Comedy Books of 2024,” these are the stories that Jamin can’t put on television. “I think people are surprised to learn that as a TV writer, I don’t write what I want to write. I write what people pay me to write,” says Jamin. “This began to weigh on me. It made writing feel like a job.” A Paper Orchestra is a deeply personal and thought-provoking exploration of the moments that change our lives. It asks the question, What if the smallest, almost forgotten moments were the ones that shaped us most? I'm excited to share this work with the Seattle community and invite audiences to embark on this journey with me." “Audaciously funny yet achingly poignant.” A Paper Orchestra will change the way you think about your own life. Running time: 70 minutes. Appropriate for audiences 18+  Book signing after the show, books will be available for purchase. In Praise of A Paper Orchestra "Good lord, how it made me feel happy, sad, and connected all at once... If one defines comedy as making sense of life and getting a visceral reaction out of its reader, it's a triumph." —Vulture, Best Comedy Books of 2024 Along with being laugh-out-loud funny, the stories are keenly observed and, just when you least expect it, achingly honest." —Air Mail Weekly "As one of the head writers for my tv show Maron, Michael Jamin was essential in helping me portray myself honestly. I'm very happy and impressed that he was able to apply his craft to himself. It's not easy to put your authentic you out there. Michael did a beautiful job of it with A Paper Orchestra." —Marc Maron "Fantastic... It's multi-timbral. It runs all levels of the pyramid at the same time. His knockout punches are stinging sincerity." -John Mayer "Keen, hilarious and sometimes heartbreaking insights from an astute and twisted observer of everyday life." —Steven Levitan, co-creator, Modern Family; creator, Just Shoot Me "While I was laughing out loud, my heart was breaking.... Tragedy and comedy in one." -Judy Greer "I had some much-needed laughs and was touched by so many of Michael's observations about love and life." —Ty Burrell
