50th anniversary celebration and poster exhibit:
Grassroots Origins of Seattle Pride
Chris Smith and Su Docekal, early Seattle pride organizers and radical leaders with the Freedom Day Committee, will share stories of what it took to win queer victories and stop the homophobes.
Smith’s poster collection is featured at the Museum of History and Industry’s exhibit 50 Years of Seattle Pride: Posters of Pride. The MOHAI exhibit illustrates the unlikely, outrageous coalitions that united the Queer movement to confront AIDS and defeat homophobic ballot initiatives. Smith and Docekal will recount rough and tumble debates over race, abortion and trans inclusion -- as well as inspiring moments of unity and bravery that the exhibit depicts.
