SEATTLE, WA - The Third Annual Old Growth Oldtime Gathering will celebrate traditional folk music and dance October 10-12, 2025 at the Latvian Center in Seattle’s Northgate neighborhood. Enjoy hearing folks playing old time tunes on fiddles, banjos, and other instruments. The community-driven festival features internationally-known and local musicians performing and sharing a love of old-time music over a full weekend of concerts, dances, workshops, and jamming. Six concerts on Friday and Saturday are followed by evening dances. Saturday features a full schedule of workshops, jamming, and kids’ activities including a family dance. A Sunday morning brunch and musical cabaret caps off the festival. Jamming is at the heart of the Seattle Old Growth Old Time Gathering. Bring your instrument and join in or just listen in comfortable jamming spaces where you will meet friends, old and new, to make music together. Food and beverages will be available, including from our sponsors Bizarre Brewing, Georgetown Brewing, and local food trucks. Friday night begins in the lounge with a performance by Canadian acoustic blues, jazz and old-time multi-instrumentalist Ryan McNally. The main stage on Friday features infectious sounds of 1920s and 30s jazz, jug band, and hillbilly music from Kit Stovepipe with Dumpster Joe & the Boys, followed by inspiring vocals and fingerstyle guitar alongside virtuosic cello improvisations from Taylor Thomas. The Friday night square dance features masterful caller Larry Edelman who has delighted both novice and veteran dancers for over 50 years, with his humor, enthusiasm, skillful teaching, knowledge of dance history, and colorful calling. Saturday daytime all-ages programming features a family dance led by beloved Seattle caller Sherry Nevins, and a special morning performance from Montana’s singular cowboy ventriloquist Buddy Mac. The Tradwife Stringband will sing feminist-inspired songs and tunes at 6 p.m. Headlining band Golden Shoals takes the stage Saturday at 7 p.m. The rousing folk-duo of fiddler Amy Alvey and guitarist Mark Kilianski will bring grit and drive to a soulful performance. Ryan McNally’s electrifying honky-tonk band will cap off Saturday evening with dancers two- stepping across the floor. Partners and experience are not necessary. Bring your instrument to workshops on Friday and Saturday. Instructors will teach fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, bass fiddle, crankie-making, song circles, and even yodeling. Esteemed scholars will explore elements of fiddle music, square dances, and early stringband music, in workshops diving deep into culture, musicianship, and history. Ticket pricing is geared to welcome all. Tickets are available online through October 10 and at the door; discounted early-bird tickets are available through September 25. Volunteers are especially needed and important in helping the festival run smoothly, and volunteers are eligible for ticket refunds.
