The Holistic Life Foundation (HLF)—a nationally recognized, BIPOC-led nonprofit—invites you to a transformative in-person retreat this fall in Seattle. From September 19–21, 2025, at Hotel Interurban, participants will immerse themselves in the foundation’s acclaimed 400-Hour Trauma-Informed Yoga & Mindfulness Certification Program.
This groundbreaking training blends an in-person learning with an interactive online curriculum, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to teach yoga, meditation, breathwork, and trauma-informed practices. Whether you’re an educator, parent, therapist, or community leader, this program provides practical tools to help children, families, and communities heal and thrive.
Why It Matters
The Holistic Life Foundation has been at the forefront of reimagining how mindfulness can address trauma, stress, and resilience. Their trauma-informed approach goes beyond the mat, creating safe spaces in schools, community centers, and wellness settings. Backed by over 23 years of experience, HLF’s co-founders—Ali Smith, Atman Smith, and Andres Gonzalez—have touched the lives of over 200,000 people worldwide. Their work was instrumental in establishing Baltimore as the first trauma-informed city in the United States.
The Research
HLF’s programs are grounded in science. A pilot trial in partnership with Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Penn State, and the Baltimore School District found that their yoga-based practices significantly improved students’ emotional regulation, reduced stress responses, and lowered rumination. Findings were published in the Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology. Additional studies by Kennedy Krieger Institute highlight how their work addresses Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and fosters long-term community healing.

Recognition & Impact
The foundation’s innovative work has been featured on Good Morning America, NBC Nightly News, PBS, CNN, CBS, Mindful Magazine, and O, The Oprah Magazine. In 2024, HLF and its co-founders were named Game Changers by Baltimore Magazine for helping young people leave gangs, reduce reliance on psychiatric medications, and step into leadership roles. They were also recently featured on BBC News World Service, continuing to inspire audiences globally with their message of resilience and healing.
