Imogen Holst (1907-1984):

Benjamin Britten is one of the towering figures of 20th century classical music. In addition to his enduring orchestral and operatic works, Britten is one of the most prolific composers of music to be performed by children.
Imogen Holst - daughter of “The Planets” composer Gustav Holst - spent 12 years as Britten’s assistant, copyist, orchestrator, and editor. She was also a sought-after conductor, particularly of works by her famous father. But Imogen was also a gifted composer with her own unique voice, whose inspired works have often been overlooked until recently.
The Northwest Boychoir’s “Choral Tradition” concert will feature Imogen Holst’s “Mass in A Minor”, written when she was 20 years old, alongside Britten’s “Friday Afternoons”, written when he was the same age. It will also feature one of Britten’s masterpieces for choir, “Hymn to St. Cecilia”, and “Jubilate Deo,” written at the request of the late Prince Philip.
