Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, MONUMENTAL TALKS returns with an evening dedicated to honoring those we lost on September 11 and celebrating the values that unite us. The 2025 theme, “Freedom & Family,” draws from stories of resilience, service, and community.
Military, police, and fire personnel admitted free with ID.
Mayor Joe Marine of Mukilteo will serve as Master of Ceremonies, leading a program that blends heartfelt narratives, live performances, and meaningful tributes. Mayor Cassie Franklin of Everett will join as one of the event’s local voices.
Highlights:
• High School Essay Contest: Over 40 Snohomish County schools participating; the $1,500 grand prize winner will read their “Reflections on 9/11” essay live.
• Award Presentation: Honoring Edward Hartley Anderson and family for their contribution to the event’s origins through the Hartley Photographic Collection.
• Performances: Music by Monet Pelluer, Karina Choe, Darrelle Holden (Nearly Dan), Carl Kelley, and the Dorothy Jayne Studio dancers, featuring the “Lights of Freedom” audience moment.
• Veteran Stories: Reflections from Lt. Col. Dan Matthews, USAF Ret., and other speakers who embody the spirit of service and sacrifice.
This program brings together veterans, students, artists, and civic leaders in a moving tribute designed to inspire reflection, unity, and gratitude.
