We will once again host our friends at Seattle Arts and Lectures for their Youth Poetry Fellowship Reading. Tonight's lineup features Aamina Mughal, Janae Lu, Landen Scott, Linus Elkins, and Sarah Guo. Note that this event starts 30 minutes earlier than our usual start time.
Aamina Mughal is a teen editor at TeenTix, a bookseller, and a senior at Eastside Prep. Her previous work can be read in publications like Blue Marble Review, and as the Runner-Up for the Patricia Grodd Poetry Prize, her work is forthcoming in the Kenyon Review. She is a lover of Taylor Swift and her hometown.
Janae Lu (she/her) is from Redmond and a sophomore at Tesla STEM High School. When she is not busy writing, frantically wrapping up tasks in the night, or reading literature, she spends her time drawing, sewing, and hanging out with friends. Through her poetry, she hopes to shine a light on youth-specific issues typically deemed too “cliché” for a conversation.
Landen Scott (he/him) is a poet from Sammamish who currently attends Skyline High School. He loves reading, being outside, and binge-watching cheesy TV shows. He loves to write about the environment, LGBTQ advocacy, and elevating unique youth perspectives through poetry.
Linus Elkins (they/them) is an 18 year old poetry and prose writer who thrives through the practice of creating and sharing art. Fascinated by all things joyful and strange, they strive to push boundaries and open discussion with their work, and hope to one day see their writing on a library shelf.
Sarah Guo is an incompetent pianist, hopeless romantic, and reluctant senior at Interlake High School in Bellevue, Washington. Her poetry aims to transform the intimacy of everyday emotion into the majesty of macrocosmic abstraction. She has published her own novel, Heir of Lightning, and has poetry and short stories published or forthcoming in Maudlin House, Quail Bell Review, and The Drabble.
The Youth Poetry Fellowship (YPF) program serves a cohort of young writers committed to poetry, performance, civic and community engagement, education, and equity across the Puget Sound region. Over the course of the school year, Fellows meet regularly for workshops with the Youth Poetry Fellowship mentors. Fellows also have numerous public opportunities to share their voices, leadership, and love of Seattle throughout the course of the year. One of the fellows, the Youth Poet Laureate, will publish a poetry collection that will be released in June 2024 by Poetry NW Editions.
